Today was a good day. Not everything went as we hoped but all in all a good day.
Max was disappointed that he couldn't swallow ~ the liquid they used showed it stayed on top of the inflated traech tube and didn't go down where it should go. It could be he needs to learn to swallow again, or the trach inflation is to wide and is cutting off access to his stomach.
Max was disappointed but God had provided someone to visit with him so he couldn't just sit and be disappointed. One of the Dr's came in and discussed getting a feeding tube put in. It will get the line out of his nose and as soon as he can swallow he will no longer have to use the feeding tube. The nice thing is it will be put in and then we can keep it until he's through with rehab. That way if something comes up he can still get nutrition.
The Dr's said he's doing an excellent job off the vent. Very pleased with his breathing. He's sitting up in the chair and getting that gunk out of his lungs. When he doesn't have as much stuff in his lungs they will start downsizing the tracheae tube. Still waiting for him to talk. On the flip side I have these notebooks of notes he's written to people. While they are not love notes & poems they mean the same to me.
Until his white cell count comes down I don't think we are moving anywhere. We are just using this extra time so Max can heal and head right to rehab. It was nice this afternoon, a friend brought us his copy of the complete personalized promise bible for men. I've asked Max if he wanted me to read him anything and he's been saying no. Well, this afternoon he wanted me to read scriptures to him. I actually went 30 minutes into shift change reading to him.
We are so blessed. He's seeing that this may be a little bit of a road to travel but we are going to walk this out together.
Well, I better get to bed. They are going to put the tube in tomorrow morning and if I get up in time I can go see him before surgery. They shouldn't have to knock him out so that is good.
I did wake up in time this morning.....rather funny, I woke up to people talking about me sleeping. Sometimes you just gotta smile!
