Well this day did NOT go as we had hoped. There definately days that I ask "Lord, I don't understand what is going on here" I may not get it, but I always know he is there.
Max started to bloat back up and his abdomen got pretty tight. The nurse told me this was common after surgery and I tried to explain to her that this is what happened last time he had air in his stomach. She assured me that she had worked with many patients on this floor that had abdominal surgery so she knew what was going on.
Well, the as his stomach kept distending and getting firmer, the surgeon on call came in. He said we could use a drug to get his bowels moving. I asked him about how this effected people with spinal cord injuries and if it could trigger autonomic dysreflexia. I mentioned the Doctors at Rusk and he asked me if we wanted to go back there.....touchy, touchy......
He went and got me some information on the drug and studies on spinal cord patients. They hadn't used it on patients that had autonomic dysreflexia and since Max had not shown symptoms of this he felt it was safe to use it. I had called the Dr on call at Rusk and he felt it would be okay if the anesthesiologist monitored it.
Finally the nurse came in to get him ready and when ever I asked her questions she really had a problem with it. At one point the tech came in to take his vitals and they were discussing if they wanted to do it now or wait until they started the drug. The nurse said something to the effect of .... you can go ahead and take his vitals so she (the wife) is happy. Thank you Lord for you spirit that can restrain the flesh!
So long story short, she stayed for a while and monitered him. She assured me he was heart was being monitered by someone. Then she went to help another patient and I didn't see her for an hour or so. Max & I decided during that time I would see if I could help him move things along. So after some help, he passed a lot of stuff and he felt much better. I guess at one point the nurse peeked in and when she saw what I was doing she turned around and left. So much for her helping! LOL
He felt much better after we were through, his stomach was not as swollen and his color was actually coming back to his face. I kept telling myself it was the lighting of the room but he really was pale and ashen colored at one point.
So now, other than a little indigestion he is feeling much better. I am so ready to get out of this place and on the road to recovery.
Thanks for all the prayers & thoughts today. I know God hears, because he sent the just right people at the just right time to encourage and bless us today.
You all have sweet dreams, if your the church going type ~ praise God for all he has done when you go to his house tomorrow ~ if your not.....it's never to late to go check it out!
